Is it possible to change tuning on the fly with a Fender Strat style tremolo bridge?
I bought a Schecter C-1 with a Floyd Rose locking trem a couple of months ago. After playing it for a while, I know that the FR trem is not for me. Therefore, I'm looking to replace it with a different guitar while still having a tremolo avaliable to me, something like the Fender strat or the PRS Custom 24 SE. I change tunings on the fly a lot, and I want to be able to do that with this new guitar. So, with the Fender strat style bridge, it is possible to change tunings quickly, or will I run into the same FR problems again?
If you get a non-locking bridge adjusted so that doesn't float (the springs hold it back against the body) you shouldn't' have any trouble unless you tune up so high that it pulls the bridge.
It won't be the same as a floating/locking system that you would have to unlock-re-balance every time you want to change pitch.
If you are just dropping the E to D you can get a thing called a D-tuna for the floyd.
