Ricocheting pellets from air rifles and air pistols? Have you experienced any problems?

The range I shoot at is predominately air guns due to limited space & local laws. We have formal shooting of paper targets. We have field target shooting. We have "open shooting" which allows tin cans, glass bottles & plastic soda bottles.
These must be brought in "clean & empty" & you can fill them with water from the spigot.
They want to stop allowing plastic soda bottles, claiming a risk of ricochet. I never experienced it. At home I did some experiments. I used a Daisy Powerline 880 @ 5 & 10 pumps. I used the following on bottles from 20 oz to 3 liters: Crosman Destroyer, Wadcutter, Ultra Magnum (domed), Super Point & Hollow Point. Most passed through the bottles cleanly at 50'. The Destroyers destroyed the bottles, tearing big holes. I saw no ricochets. Neither did my friend with me. Then we used a Benjamin 392 at 8 pumps. We used Crosman Wadcutter, Pointed Domed & Hollow Points. No problems. What's the big deal? Things are getting too restrictive and for no apparent reason.

I think your situation is about "legal Liability" at the range if someone gets hurt. In this lawsuit crazy society of ours everyone is suing everyone else for everthing you can imagine and then some. It's not about being fair.,.that's pretty obvious.Did you take your test results to the Range and share them with whoever is in charge? I would if I were you. What do you have to lose that you haven't already lost?
