Bullets Speed
Sep/080
What's the speed of a bullet fired from a plane in flight ?
The plane is moving at speed Vp. The bullet, fired in vacuum is traveling at speed Vb. Both speeds are considered constant (assuming they are measured just as the bullet leaves the barrel). Air friction is disregarded, as well as gravity; consider the plane / space ship traveling in vacuum.
What is the speed of the bullet (V) when fired from the plane relative to a fixed point of observation on the ground?
The vectorial sum of the two speeds. If the bullet is fired straight foreward, simply add the speeds. If fired straight back, subtract.
The setup of your question seems to work with ordinary speed bullets and vehicles, so relativistic effects can be ignored along with friction.
